Kentucky won't get a chance to defend its 2012 national championship banner in the NCAA Tournament.
The Cats did not earn an at-large bid to the NCAA Tournament, missing the Big Dance for only the second time in the past 22 years. Kentucky also missed the NCAA Tournament in 2009, the final of Billy Gillispie's two seasons in Lexington before John Calipari was hired to return the program to national prominence.
The NCAA Selection Committee didn't appear to be impressed with the strength of the Southeastern Conference, putting only three teams in the field. Florida, the league's regular season champion, was given a No. 3 seed, while Missouri was a No. 9 seed. Ole Miss, which won the SEC Tournament, earned a No. 12 seed.
The Cats will now await their match up in the NIT, which will be revealed during a NIT Selection Show set to air on ESPNU at 9 p.m. Sunday night. They would play either Tuesday, Mar. 19 or Wednesday, Mar. 20.
